Tool Exploration
Word-of-mouth is often the way that new online tools get used. However, if you are lucky enough to get time and space you can look for yourself. Websites that aggregate and categorize different tools are a good place to start.
Here are some prominent example. These are sites that we use:
https://sites.google.com/site/richardbyrnepdsite/home - Run by a UK educator who uses the tools he describes. Although some of the categorisation is a little confusing, this is good place to start because the descriptions are what he thinks about each tool.
http://www.freetech4teachers.com/ - Our favourite site. Most Web 2.0 tools with any educational potential have been reviewed by this site. It's not as easy to navigate because it's in blog format so you'll need to use the search facility and check the freetech4teachers box. After 21st Century Tools for teaching and learning you will hopefully have a good basic knowledge of the different types of tools and will be able to effective search on this site.
http://web20-21stcentury-tools.wikispaces.com/ - Lots of links categorised in list form with links to reviews.
http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/Home - Lots of links categorised like some of the above sites. We question some of the categorisations but this is an excellent resource.
