Activity 1 - Wordle
Let's try creating your own word cloud using wordle:
- Open a new window or tab and enter the website address http://www.wordle.net/
- Click Create your own
- You need some text to paste in. If you have access to a large body of text find this now and copy it. Alternatively, visit the famous speeches website below (also open this in a new window/tab). Choose a speech and then copy and paste the text into one of the tools above.

- Once created you can press randomise to change the look/layout. You cannot edit anything further in wordle
- To use elsewhere you have to Save to Public Gallery
- Now you can copy the embed code and paste within website that allow this function, e.g. blog or a site like this one.

Activity 2 - Tagxedo
Let's try another word cloud tool called tagxedo. This one is worth trying because of the editing options you have and the ability to save as an image:
- Open a new window or tab and enter the website address http://www.tagxedo.com/
- Click start now
- Load
- Paste in some text as with activity 1
- Try manipulating the display of the word cloud. You can edit the colour, theme, font, orientation, layout and shape
- Click Save/Share/Print
- Use the image option to save the word cloud as an image
- Use the web option to create a weblink for the word cloud
- Open a new window or tab and enter the website address http://www.tagxedo.com/
- Click start now
